Oblepikha: A secret gem from Siberia

Have you ever heard of sea buckthorn, or oblepikha in Russian? It is a bright yellow-colored berry that grows mostly high in the Siberian mountains across North Asia and North Europe. The berry grows under the conditions of high altitude, exposure to extremely strong ultra violet radiation due to its proximity to the sun, and reflected light from heavy snows, severe cold, scorching heat, and dry, ‘barren’ soil, that this plant becomes a super food.

It is extremely life-giving and enhances both health and beauty. Sea buckthorn is packed with vitamins B1, B2, K, C, A, E, and folic acid, over 60 antioxidants, at least 20 minerals, and healthy fatty acids. It is an absolute power house of nutrients! I myself started drinking sea buckthorn in my tea. It tastes unlike any typical berries, it’s a bit like a mix of raspberry and pineapple, but not as sweet. It is helping me to get through this winter flu season (I know you’ve been there too..)

I discovered this little gem from Natura Siberica, an amazing yet affordable cosmetics brand that was born in Russia. They use wild-harvested natural ingredients from Siberia and committed to purchasing wild Siberian herbs in an ethical and responsible way so as to help sustain livelihoods of indigenous people of Siberia and Russian Far East. And another important thing: they are cruelty-free! So if you never heard about this brand before, this is your chance 🙂

These are some products I picked up! Please note that all products here I purchased myself, all photos were taken by me, and this blog post is my honest review.

The hand creme! To be honest, I love this one better than the ones I’ve got from other brands (I’ve got plenty of them..). It has the perfect consistency that is hydrating, protecting, yet not greasy. And it smells indescribably delicious!

The shower gel smells just exactly like the berry itself! This one feels very moisturising. I just love lathering myself up with this during my morning shower. It gives me that crisp, bittersweet, wintery feels.

This is my most-used hair oil. You don’t see it here because I laid the bottle down, but I’ve already used up half of the bottle. I use it right after I wash my hair, and I find it really moisturises my hair ends.

The hair mask is really good! I sometimes use it instead of my regular conditioner and leave it for about 5 mins before rinsing it off. It has a very thick texture, and it helps softens my damaged, processed hair.

I purchased this one recently and i find the best way to use it is when my hair is still wet. It helps with detangling and make my hair easier to comb through. Don’t put too much product though, a little goes a long way!

That’s it my tribute to this lovely oblepikha products. Unfortunately, we don’t have Natura Siberica stores here in Holland. But you can purchase them online here. I myself love this brand so much that I always hunt for their stores whenever I’m abroad (found them in Copenhagen, Paris, and of course, Russia). How I wish they open a store here in Holland too!

See you again in the next post :*
